'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Steve Bruce - This Week Will Sort Us Out

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce reckons the next seven days will leave him with a clear vision of how the season will pan out, Latics face Villa at the JJB tomorrow before heading off for Fulham on Wednesday and Portsmouth next Saturday, Bruce told reporters:

'With 11 games gone after these games, you can feel that this is the week where you know what you're going to do'

The bottom half of the Premier League is very tight at the moment and teams are already jostling to keep out of the bottom three and it would be nice for the Latics to stay well clear of the relegation zone this season, Bruce continued:

'From 10th position down to the bottom three, there's only three points in it after eight games, so this is a big week coming up.

'We've got three Premier League games and they're vitally important. Hopefully we'll get a few points on the board which will take us in the right direction.

'It's so tight at the bottom that if you put back-to-back wins together you'll go from the bottom to the top half of the table.

'That's what we're looking to do but of course that will be difficult.'

Bruce reckons that all though the side have played well its points on the board that count and the Latics need to turn those good performances into winning ones, he also couldn`t help having a little dig at Alan Wiley for last week`s refereeing display that saw Antonio Valencia sent off, he concluded:

'We've played well all season but really our points tally doesn't mirror that'

'It's okay getting pats on the back and people saying, 'What a good team you've got, you were unlucky again today', but we've got to turn that around and get a few victories.

'The performances have been there for everybody to see - we must keep that level and not lose confidence, which a couple of defeats can do.

'If we maintain that level then it's got to turn for us sooner or later, and hopefully this weekend we'll get a fair referee who referees the game properly and then we will have a better chance.'

Following the Villa, Fulham and Pompey games we have Stoke at home then the Geordies away, so realistically we could go on a 5 game winning run ;)
