Here are the Wigan Athletic player ratings for the home game with Aston Villa at the JJB Sunday 26th October 2008
Chris Kirkland
Kirkie didn`t have that much to do in the game even though we lost 4-0, I don`t think he could be faulted for any of the goals and his handling throughout the game was good
6/10
Emerson Boyce
Boycie had a poor game by his standards and he was at fault for at least one of the Villa goals though he was left totally exposed by DeRidder`s failure to track back, even so still a poor game from Mr Reliable
5/10
Titus Bramble
Solid in the tackle, just a little too solid, should never have made the challenge that gave away the penalty, thought he played well apart from that though this is a statement that is used pretty frequently with Titus, 'played well apart from costing his side a goal`
4/10
Paul Scharner
What planet was he on? Awful game today at the heart of the defence, waited for every ball to bounce before challenging for it and got caught out numerous times, should have scored in the second have with a header from a corner
4/10
Maynor Figueroa
At least made an effort, tried to attack down the left and had some nice touches.
5/10
Daniel DeRidder
Shocking, absolutely shocking. Didn`t want the ball, when he got it got rid as soon as he could, looks very timid, knocked off the ball far too easily, no defensive qualities whatsoever and left Boyce totally exposed time after time, challenges like a big soft Mary Helen, one of the worst players I have witnessed in a Latics shirt, suited to beach football, no wonder Birmingham got shut, awful player
1/10
Wilson Palacios
Not one of Wilsons better games, booked early on for a very innocuous challenge and this seemed to put him off his game, he missed Valencia today more than anybody else in the team, looked lost without his buddy
6/10
Lee Cattermole
Huff and puff and huff and puff, that`s what Catt did today we needed more and he didn`t deliver
5/10
Olivier Kapo
Bad, bad game from a very lethargic player, Kapo doesn`t break sweat at the best of times, this wasn`t the best of times, robbing his wages
3/10
Emile Heskey
Heskey got no change whatever out of Martin Laursen and he was in the defenders pocket for most of the afternoon, the one chance he did get he fired into the side netting
5/10
Amr Zaki
Probably his worst performance for the club, although in fairness he got no service and had to go hunting for the ball, no chances today from a well marshalled and organised Villa defence
6/10
Jason Koumas
Plenty of running when he came on though not really going anywhere, ho yes he went sideways a lot, having said that he was so much better than Kapo
6/10
Michael Brown
Not on long (9 minutes) but put his foot in
5/10
Ryan Taylor
Should have started before that pudding DeRidder, before you say Taylor is a defender and not a winger at least he is a football player I don`t know what DeRidder is, spends most of the game 'flicking` his hair. Taylor made a couple of good crosses when he came on
5/10
