Latics Speyk to Pompey

Latics Speyk to Pompey

In the build up to the game between Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic at Fratton Park, Vital Latics took the cyber highway and met up with our counterpart from Vital Pompey, Chix, for a chat about the Latics, Pompey and the week just gone, lets see how it went:

Hi Chix a bit of an exciting week down on the south coast, any of it expected?

Hi worbo, emotional rather than exciting.

No. Not in the slightest, I thought 'arry was at Pompey for life. We had a scare with the Newcastle offer but with what he said after he turned it down we didn`t expect him to go anywhere.. Despite what some might say now!

Sorry to see Redknapp leave?

Yes. 'arry had wormed his way back in to our hearts after his last adventure and although we all feel betrayed now, nobody can deny what he achieved for us.

Is Tony Adams the man to carry on the legacy or is he the cheap option?

Although I think we will see a number of changes with Tony. He`ll be keen to show that he is his own man and not a mini 'arry

How was the season shaping up before the upheaval?

Top 7 or 8, in group stages of UEFA Cup - Inconsistent away from home but doing ok - As expected

Where do you see your season going now?

No different: Top Ten finish.. maybe a good cup run… Would love to retain the FA Cup

What`s your summer signings been like, any good?

Peter Crouch took a few games to settle but him a Defoe are beginning to click. On the left Traore and Belhadj are fantastic prospects.
All in all pretty good

Who should the Latics fans watch out for in the Pompey team?

Crouch, Defoe, Diarra, Traore, Belhadj, - The first two could bury you, Diarra will run the midfield and Belhadj & Traore will terrorise your right back

How`s the European adventure going?

Difficult to judge really.

We qualified for the group stages (just). Then we lost the first group game, but as it was away from home it really doesn`t matter. Basically we have to win two of the four games to qualify which is doable although I don`t think we will beat AC Milan - But what an event if we did !

How do you feel the Latics will do this season?

Before the season started I had you in a group with Fulham, Bolton, Sunderland & Boro` and thought that if any of you have a poor start you could get sucked into a relegation battle along with the three promoted teams.

Now we are 10 games in, Hull and West Brom look stronger than I thought. So I worry for you and for Bolton.

If you had to pick one of the current Latics players to be in your squad who would it be and why?

Do I really need to answer this?
Amr Zaki without a shadow of a doubt, the guy is pure quality. I think you are going to lose him though. Zamalek will like the sound of Man City and Chelsea chinking millions. Why didn`t Bruce buy him when he had the chance?

Who do you think will finish in the top 4 and bottom 3 this season?

Top Four: Same as always - Chelsea as champions Liverpool Runners up
Bottom Three: Bolton, Stoke and I think if you lose Zaki`s goals…Wigan. If you can keep him I`d say West Brom

Prediction for Pompey Vs Latics?

We played well against Fulham but dropped two points because we didn`t kill them off when we had the chance.

We withheld Liverpool for the whole game except for a moment of madness by Papa Bouba Diop.

It`ll be Tony`s first (official) game in charge at Fratton Park so I think when all those things come together we are going to murder you. Come back and gloat if I`m wrong by all means, but Pompey are going to be in bullish mood so I reckon 4-0.. Sorry !.. But it is my honest opinion.

I`m gonna get moaned at by Gandor on VITAL POMPEY now for not being diplomatic, but I speak as I find and I don`t do diplomacy very well . Good luck for the season, after Saturday obviously and I hope you can somehow keep Zaki and retain your premiership status.

Thanks for the views Chix, lets hope that Adams underestimates us as much as you do though it was nice to see that you think B*!t*n are going down

4-0 indeed anyone would think we are on some sort of losing streak and in the bottom 3

Worbo, Chix is being polite. I'm going for 5-nil and five straight defeats for you guys. That said, I hope you stay up - would love to see Spurs and Bolton go down, along with, I suspect, West Brom.
31/10/2008 11:32:00
NinjaTim, with a name like that I am not going to give you any grief but I think we may just surprise you tomorrow...nice to hear that you also feel B*!t*n will go down
31/10/2008 11:35:00
I don't think we will do as well as 4-0, but then I have not managed to predict a correct score yet this season. I think Pompey will win, but I think it will be close. Heskey and Zaki should prove a handfull.
31/10/2008 11:52:00
I think you'll score, so perhaps 4-1 rather than 4-0. I had a pre season bet that Notlob would get relegated and am on course. I hope you stay up but I do fear for you, esp if Zaki goes.
31/10/2008 13:21:00
4-0 , 5-0 , Worbo e-mail these predictions to the Latics team. If SB can't motivate them maybe this will. 2 all IMO
31/10/2008 13:43:00
Worbo... See it wasn't just me, confidence is high in Pompey at the mo and your poor run makes you vunerable ... you watch.. you'l probably give us a right thumping now ! .. Anyway just popped on to say thanks again for the swapped interviews... your answers, together with what will now be known as 'Worbo's Rugby Rant' are now up on Vital Pompey.. Cheers Mate and Good Luck for the season from Sunday onwards..
31/10/2008 19:53:00
oh yes that rant is something to behold lol but i got to say i think 4-0 is a bit step chix i'd go for 2 or 3 =) and again i hope you guys do stay up and spurs and bolton go down would be nice to see lol
01/11/2008 00:44:00
4-0? I think it will be a hard worked for draw... Tony's first home game - he definatly has a good tactical "understanding" and he also has the players he needs - so he could very well be great for us. On the other hand, we could still be settling down, you will CERTAINLY be wanting to bounce back form 4 defeats, I genuinly think it will be a tough (boring) 1-1 draw...
01/11/2008 07:45:00
Carpet.. A tough boring 1-1 draw... you'll be watching Rugby next (whoops Sorry Worbo! ;)
