Steve Bruce - 'I hope it was one of those weeks`

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce spoke about the Latics performance against Fulham and declared that if they repeat that tomorrow at Portsmouth then there will be another defeat on the cards.

It certainly has been a week to forget with the Latics conceding 6 goals and scoring none in the two games played and going down to a very poor Fulham side in the week really put the hat on it.

The Latics boss has been critical of his defence in the last two games and he could be forgiven for thinking that there was something of a curse on his defenders following the horror shows against Villa and Fulham, Bruce told reporters:

"If we play like we did against Fulham we won't deserve anything from Portsmouth'

'We know what we must do and we can't accept any more defensive displays like the one on Wednesday.'

'We have played well until the last week, that's for sure. We haven't picked up the points that we've probably deserved'

'If you look at the four in a row, we lost in the last minute to Boro (Middlesbrough) when we didn't deserve to.

'We lost to Liverpool in the last 10 minutes. We were beaten by Villa and I have no complaints about the result against Fulham.

'Fulham was arguably the worst performance from my team in the year I've been at Wigan.

'I've been asking questions of myself, like did I pick the right team?

'But I've also been asking questions of individual players so that I can understand why they performed like that.

'I hope it's just one of those nights, or one of those weeks.'

Lets hope that he has sorted out the problems before we go giving Tony Adams his first win

Being top of the league didn't last long, did it? We'll leave that talk until May from now on. We drew 1-1 with a well-drilled Gillingham side.
