Yesterdays game at Fratton Park between Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic was what you could call an exciting affair with the appalling conditions adding to the games appeal.
The Latics came away with a very creditable 1-2 victory but in all honesty the game could have swung either way with Pompey having 20 attempts on goal and hitting the woodwork 4 times
Latics also had their fair share with 18 attempts including 3 one on ones with Pompey keeper David James and a Tony Valencia goal that was disallowed for off-side when he was a good yard on side.
Those are my views but what of the two bosses Steve Bruce and Tony Adams, lets see what they had to say:
Latics boss Steve Bruce:
'It was quite a game, it was unbelievable. We needed that after Wednesday, which is arguably the worst we've played since i walked through the door a year ago, today we've actually had a bit more luck than we've had in any game so far.'
'I don't think I've witnessed rain like that for a long time so both sets of players deserve a massive pat on the back because they were all dead on their feet with twenty minutes to go and they've made a game out of something awful'
'They had an attack and then we had an attack so it was a good spectacle considering the conditions.'
'Valencia has had two very good chances in the last minute and Camara came on and he was very lively
'Of course Tony's (Adams) thrown caution to the wind and thrown everyone forward to try and get the result they wanted and we've been able to hit them on the counter attack with Emile scoring his 100th goal which is great for him.'
'I'm glad that another English manager has been given a chance. He's always come from good stock so I wish him all the best.'
Pompey boss Tony Adams:
'I went berserk in the dressing room. I was angry, but it's hard to be angry when they have shown so much commitment and passion.
'It's difficult. I'm honest and they saw my feelings. I did kick a few bottles. Early in my managerial career I am having quite an experience.
'We have to be disciplined. The rain is a defender's nightmare, but you can still play sensibly and stay on your feet.
'We are a better team than Wigan. That is what I told the players. We have got a better team, better players, but we lost and so I am gutted.
'But I'm glad I am Portsmouth manager and not Wigan manager. I am confident in my players. I would be doing them a disservice if I didn't tell them how I feel. But too many of those types of games and I will have a heart attack.'
