Today's Man in the Middle...Mike Riley

Riley is no stranger to the JJB having been a football league referee since 1994.

Mike is one of the most experienced referees in the Premier League having referred the F.A.Cup final in 2002 and the Carling Cup final in 2004.

Riley is also an experienced referee in Europe and earned a sigh of relief from our own Mario Melchiot last season by disallowing a late Albania equiliser against Holland when Mario appeared to have headed the ball into his own net.

Riley averages 3 yellow cards per game prior to this season and a red card every 5 games.

This season he is averaging 4.5 yellows per game a rate inflated by booking SEVEN Manchester Untied players against Chelsea.

He has sent two players off so far this season which eqautes to one every four games.

This will be the first time he has refereed either team this season.

With the game expected to be a physical contest I would expect a shedful of yellows and at least one red today.
