Benitez in Wigan Athletic Switch

Ecuador striker Cristian Benitez has caught the eye of Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce as he searches for new fire power in a bid to keep the Latics out of the relegation zone.

With current pairing of Amr Zaki and Emile Heskey`s future at the club in doubt Bruce is looking at all possibilities and admits that 22 year old Benitez is a player that he likes, Bruce said:

'The lad is one of the players we are looking at. We would love to buy more domestic players but they are hard to find at the moment.'

Benitez is currently playing in Mexico with Santos Laguna and he is also an international team mate of Latics midfield man Antonio Valencia, the fee reportedly needed to catch Benitez is £8 million
