Benson to Mexico for Benitez Deal

Vital Latics understand that Wigan Athletic general manager John Benson has been out to Mexico and met with representatives of Ecuador international Cristian Benitez with regards to a big money move to the JJB in January

Benitez is currently plying his trade at Mexican club Santos Laguna and they are the current league champions wrapping up the Mexican title in June this year, he has scored 28 goals for Santos in 48 appearances for them.

At international level the highly rated 22 year old is quite prolific hitting 17 goals in just 20 games for his country where he plays along side Latics midfield man Antonio Valencia.

Benitez and Valencia were club mates previously at Ecuador club El Nacional

Benitez is also known as Chucho and he was born on May 1st 1986 in Quito, in 2008 he was voted the best player in Mexico`s Primera División

It is understood that Santos are looking at around Ł6 - 8 million for the transfer and a permanent deal not a loan is in the offing.
