Bruce Gives Cattermole a Verbal Spanking

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce has laid down the law to midfield player Lee Cattermole following an incident outside a North East night club last Saturday night.

Cattermole was made Latics captain for the game at Newcastle and indeed Catts gave a man of the match performance with 10 man Latics unlucky not to win the game.

Later in the evening Cattermole has met up with some old friends and gone out for the evening only to find himself in a bit of bother with the police for being a bit 'verbal` in an area that is notorious for rowdy behaviour at the weekend, this left Bruce fuming, he told reporters:

'We have dealt with it. It was not ideal and I think the boy has learned a lesson. I know the town where it happened very well and there are certain areas you stay away from.

'You've got to live your life, but you have also not got to let yourself get into those situations. He came out of the North East because it's a goldfish bowl and he can't get into that position again.

'Lee will be lighter in the pocket for it - he might not be able to afford to go out for a beer next time'

'He has been terrific for us and I gave him the armband because I think there is a captain in him.

'He needs to lead by example on the pitch - but he didn't lead by example off it.'
