Benitez Having Medical Despite Broken Leg

Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce is still keen to bring striker Cristian Benitez to the Latics and is having him flown in for a medical even though the Ecuador international is sidelined with a broken leg.

Chucho, as Benitez is known, broke his leg in training with his club, Mexican champions Santos Laguna, and this looked like it had put paid to the £8 million January transfer but after the intervention of Benitez close friend Latics winger Antonio Valencia it seems Bruce is willing to take a risk.

Valencia informed Bruce that the break isn`t as bad as first thought and Benitez will be back playing before the season is out, so with this in mind the player is on his way to the JJB to be assessed by the clubs medical staff and the possibility of still becoming Latics record signing this January

Broken leg...flying DVT!?!?!? Insurance?
worbo
signing a player with a broken leg is a major gamble as he may not play again even if the medical is positive in its prognosis
