Figueroa Wins Permanent Deal

Following his successful loan spell at Wigan Athletic Honduras international left back Maynor Figueroa will join the Latics on a permanent deal in January once the transfer window opens

Figueroa came to the JJB last January on a 6 month loan but didn`t feature in the first team until the last game of the season against Manchester United where he showed enough to be offered another 6 months loan.

This season the 25 year old has been an ever present though his form has dipped of late but this could be down to travelling back to Honduras several times since September to play in his countries World Cup Qualifying campaign.

The Latics will pay Figueroa`s Honduran club side Olimpia a pre-agreed £1.5 million and Latics boss Steve Bruce sees this as money well spent, he told the press:

'I think Maynor has done enough here, and there is a deal in place between the two clubs.

'We negotiated in the summer to have him on loan until Christmas, but now with the sort of money we're talking about - £1.5m - it's a no-brainer not to make it permanent.

'That will go through in January when the transfer window opens and we'll be delighted to get that done.

'Maynor only made his full debut against Manchester United on the final day of last season, but since then he's near enough played every game and he has been a 'steady Eddie'.

'He had a tough time against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and we substituted him. But generally, he's done well.'

Nice one Figgy and welcome to the club on a permanent basis
