Wigan Athletic Eye Noone

Wigan Athletic are reported to be closing in on Plymouth Argyle winger Craig Noone who only joined the Devon club last summer from Conference side Southport.

Our friends at Vital Plymouth report that Noone is rated at £800,000 and that we are joined by Sunderland in chasing the 21 year old who has also played for Skelmersdale United and Burscough and he will be known to a few Latics fans from his time around the local non-league circuit.

Vital Plymouth report:

The 21-year old winger only signed for Argyle last summer for £100,000 from Southport and has gone to make a big impact at Home Park.

A national newspaper has claimed that Sunderland or Wigan are now ready to offer £800,000 to sign Noone during the January transfer window.

Noone started his career at Skelmersdale United before moving to Burscough but after nine months the winger was on the move again to Southport.

Noone, who last summer worked as a roofer, only made one appearance for Southport before being snapped up by Argyle boss Paul Sturrock in August 2008.

Noone has been mainly used as a substitute this season, often coming on and changing a game. The lively winger has so far made 13 appearances for Argyle and scored one goal.
