Player Ratings - Latics Vs Spurs

Vital Wigan regular J_Mo rates the Wigan Athletic players performances from yesterdays win at the JJB against Spurs

Wigan Athletic v Tottenham Hotspur: Player Ratings

(Ratings out of 10)

Kirkland - 6

Uncharacteristic error when he fumbled a simple catch early on but got away with it. Had very little to do after that.

Melchiot - 6

A pretty average showing from Latics' skipper. Not as threatening on the attack and caught out of position defensively on occasion.

Scharner - 7

Had a couple of problems dealing with the pace of Spurs attack but overall a pretty solid performance.

Bramble - 8

Best defender on the pitch that dealt with everything that came his way. Is this the same player who was making those comical errors at Newcastle?

Figueroa - 8

Good performance from the Honduran capped off with his first goal for the club. His recent form will be giving Steve Bruce a real selection dilemma, following Edman's return from injury.

Valencia - 7

One of his quieter games, but became more involved in the 2nd half and caused Bale a lot of problems.

Cattermole - 6

Didn't really see much action, and was outshone by his central midfield partner Palacios.

Palacios - 9

By far away his best performance of the season. Won the ball back in good positions high up the pitch, and showed the attacking threat we saw more of from him last season.

Taylor - 6

Delivered the set piece for the goal but was invisible for long periods of the game.

Heskey - 7

Won the aerial battle with Spurs' defenders, but wasted a couple of decent scoring chances.

Zaki - 7

Like Heskey worked hard, and caused problems down the wings. Will also feel he should have made more of his opportunities.

Verdict:

By no means one of Latics best performances, but a deserved win against a mediocre Spurs team.
