United 1-0 Latics Half-time report

United 1-0 Latics Half-time report

Halftime Report

Like last weeks game Wigan came out sluggish and against United thats not how you want to start the game and United made it count.

In the 1st min Wigan turn the ball over and send it down to Ronaldo, he is allowed room to move by Figueroa and allowed to move into the box, he sends the ball along the ground which Bramble, Scharner and Kirkland watch go past for Rooney to tap into the goal from about 1 meter out. It was a very soft goal and one I think Bruce would be livid about letting in the way they did especially in the 1st minute of the game which meant Wigan would be forced to chase for the next 90mins

To the rest of the 1st half and well really its been mostly all United so far, they have had several chances and should really be leading by more than the 1 goal regardless of how good the defending of the Wigan back 4 has been during parts of the match.

Tevez blew a golden chance which should go on the blooper real, just on half way the ball went long and Tevez broke away from Bramble, he had only the Keeper to beat with plenty of room to move, he started in the center of the park and some reason started to drift to his left, Kirkland started to drift out from goal and spread himself about 10yrds off his line, Tevez instead of hitting it he tries to beat Kirkland, his initial touch was to heavy and went further to his left, this allowed for Bramble to make some meters on his inside and make a pre-meditated dive incase tevez got to the ball in time which he didn't - Golden chane missed

The Latics looked there best towards the back end of the 1st half when they started to control more of the ball and moved forward, something they failed to do for most of the 1st half because every player was deep in Wigans half of the park defending.

Best chance for Wigan would come from a brilliant display of strength from Zaki who was able to hold the ball up and 2 United defenders off the ball, send it to Cattermole who inturn sends it long and wide to a hustling Valencia down Wigans rightflank, Valencia learned from the last few times he held the ball up and instead of crossing straight away (each time O'Shea jumped and blocked the cross) he faked the cross and moved the ball around O'shea to his left foot and sent the ball accross the box to an unmarked Taylor on the left who's shot went wide and high.

The stats for the 1st half

United / Wigan
5 Shots On Target 1
1 Shots Off Target 6
4 Fouls 1
1 Corners 3
