Wigan Athletic Match Analysis

Manchester United 1-0 Wigan Athletic

The match highlights will be a good showing for Wigan especially in the 2nd half

Latics fans can be proud of the display after the 1st min of play as the boys dug in and played well

Wigan did deserve a point from this game but credit to United who was able to defend, defend and defend. Vidic was all over the park at the back and showed why he is one of the best backs in the game.

For Wigan Scharner was great at the back and made several key plays, he was Wigans best with Figgy a close 2nd, he covered Ronaldo well and also made some crucial plays during the game, also made a spectacular shot which rifled right onto vandersars chest, Palacious in the midfield was running around like a rabbit was also good but todays match was one the defenders deserve the credit for.

Melchiot I thought was ordinary today really made silly mistakes at times and failed to mark his man, United target his flank during the 1st half and were able to move forward with ease in doing so, the 2nd half Scharner covered and cleaned his play up several times

Valencia was solid, his crosses needed to be more effective and he had a golden chance to get a goal which he missed, didn't actually get it on target either

All in all I think this match showed that Wigan are in 7th for a reason and that we aren't a team that is struggling, Wigan took it right up to United and gave them a run for there money on there home turf with there big stars playing. Whilst Wigan lost everyone should hold there head high and move onto the Man City match still running on full confidence IMO.

Video Highlights - Wigan Athletic 0 Nottingham Forest 0

The action(?) from yesterday's game at the DW Stadium between Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest which ended goalless:

Report - Latics 0 Forest 0 - What A Shocker

Thirteen games to save our Championship status, first up a home game against Nottingham Forest who are on a shocking run of form, conceded 10 goals in their last three matches, three of their first choice defenders missing through injury, they had lost 11 of their 16 away games this season with a -16 goal difference on the road and sat just six points above us in the table, surely a game that we would set out to win.

Checking the team selection I felt slightly optimistic but slightly conf
