Latics go HUNTing to Set up Deal

Readings Republic of Ireland international Stephen Hunt spent the day in Wigan finalising his move from the Championship club to join Steve Bruces Premier League revolution at the Latics

Latics boss Bruce activated a well known clause in Hunts contract by offering Reading £5 million for the left winger and the Irish man made his way up the M6 to Lancashire to discuss personal terms

The deal is expected to be concluded by Tuesday at the latest enabling Hunt the possibility of making his debut at the JJB in Wednesdays Premier League fixture against Liverpool.

Hunt in Killer out...hmmm
worbo
he's a good player for wigan specially that he's the only left footed lw in the squad ( since i don't consider capo as a player in the first place ) i just hope he doesn't break any more goalkeeper's skulls ( jk )

A hard worker but little else for me. Certainly if Wigan were hoping to become UEFA Cup regulars, they need to be looking at a much higher calibre of player. Screams of lack of ambition IMO.

£5 mil is a lot of cash Mike for lack of ambition, but then again there isnt a lot of quality left footed midfield men out there
worbo
You can throw money at anyone but it doesn't make them a good player. Just like Bellamy isn't suddenly going to become a £14 million player. Besides I'm guessing the funds for this are going to be coming from selling two of your better players. Admittedly Heskey would of ended up leaving in the summer anyway, but still.
EvertonMike
I agree with you that Hunt isnt top draw but for a club like us to splash 5 mil on any player is a massive gamble it was the amount rather than the player in question that I was meaning shows a bit of ambition, but it does need to be spent wisely
worbo
£5 million in todays market is nothing. The amount of money Sky has pumped into all of the league, means 5 million gets you very little unless your getting a great deal, or your buying from a team from a country with less money in football. The fee is largely irrelevant as it's relativly small with the current financial climate in football, the player himself as a signing for a club 7th in the league is an incredible show of no ambition for me. There's a lot of ***** teams in the league this season, and a team like Wigan could easily finish top 7. Hunt is a lower mid table player, so for me that's WIgan settling for survival in this league, and not looking to push on up it again.
EvertonMike
Apparently he is waiting for Everton to make a bid for him. ( seriously) Can you afford 5 million Mike?
baskerville
You've got to be joking mate? We haven't got £5 let alone £5 million. Moyes has tracked him for a while though, so it is plausible he'd want him, but no way we'd have cash.
