Giles Barnes Next on the Bruce Radar?

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce was at Pride Park last night for the FA Cup game between Derby County and Nottingham Forest doing a little bit of scouting.

Of all the players on view the only one that really caught the eye was Derby County attacking midfield prodigy Giles Barnes who has recently returned to the side following a long lay-off with a serious knee injury.

The 20 year old scored two goals at Old Trafford last week in the Carling Cup semi-final and he is rediscovering the form that made him one of the countrys hottest properties a couple of years ago.

Steve Bruce is looking to strengthen the Latics midfield with young hungry talent and Barnes would be an ideal candidate to come into the Wigan squad, he can play anywhere across the middle and down either flank and he can also stand-in as a second striker and at 6 foot and 12 stone he has the physical attributes to stand his ground.

If Derby would be willing to sell one of their prize assets is another matter but has we found out with Wilson Palacios` move to Spurs every player has their price

Giles wouldn't get games at Wigan. How much did you spend on Hunt? £5,000,000? We'd want more than that, I'd say around £7,000,000 and he's yours. In the past we have rejected a £5,000,000 bid from West Ham in 06-07 season and a pathetic Newcastle bid of £1,500,000 by Keegan. His best position is just playing off the striker.

i agree with derby casual about his best position , and since the amount of strikers wigan has at the moment he would rarely get any playing time , he's a good player but it's not true he can play on the flanks , he'd be really bad there it's either as a second striker or as a cm .
