1 Emile Heskey at Aston Villa, who`d have thought, what's your verdict on the Hesk signing for you?
There has been loads of reaction on this signing, originally I wasn't that keen, especially having looked at his scoring record but Martin O'Neill did get the best out of him last time and he is obviously rated judging by the money that has been used to get his services throughout his career. Not only that but we do need options and he adds a very big one at a cheap price judging by the fact he is an England international. He even won our Vital Villa man of the match vote after his debut which I have to be honest, was a great one. Not only did he score but he also showed pace and strength. Maybe this period of his career will prove to be his most successful. It was certainly positive to see him flick on and find Gabby whereas John Carew flicks to nowhere and we lose the ball!
So all in all, a good signing at a good price. Hopefully he can stay fit and have a good Villa career.
2 Villa are doing quite well this season, flash in the pan or will you still be in the top four come the end of May?
How did you find out about my flash in the pan? Anyway, nothing was ever proven so I thank you not to mention it... oh hang on, I see! Yes, we are building fantastically and even when we aren't playing well, we are grinding out results. There is a real team spirit as well as some VERY good individuals in the squad. I don't think this is a flash in the pan, whether we have the legs to finish in the top four this season no one knows but if we do it will certainly be deserved. We've read a few comments about us being 'lucky'. Hogwash, all teams have good and bad decisions etc and if we are getting the rub of the green, long may it continue, we were down in the dumps for long enough so deserve a bit of good luck!
3 Martin O`Neil looks to be doing the business, is he at Villa for life or can you see him being tempted to somewhere like Manchester United?
Apparently a lot of the Man Utd fans call Martin O'Neill FUM, ie the future united manager. Would Martin O'Neill go? Who knows, he is not the sort of man who you can read, he is a one off. I have a feeling he likes Villa, likes the owner and the history etc and he says he feels he can achieve big things at this club, so maybe by the time Sir Alex Chewalot retires MON won't need the move if offered? I can't really worry too much, I would think that or an international job would be the only thing that would tempt him but hopefully he'll realise he can build an empire here. He's not made a bad start eh!?
4 Us Latics fans see mid table mediocrity as a fantastic season, what's the Villa fans idea of success for this season
This season, now we have reached the heights, I think it will be a disappointment if we don't finish in the top four. However if we finish 5th we'll still have seen the season-on-season improvements under MON. In fact we've gone from 16th to 11th to 6th. Seems obvious to me that means - following the very complicated mathematical pattern - we'll only go and win the league this year ! We are also still in the UEFA Cup and FA Cup so would be great to see us have a real good go at winning at least one. Following the sad news of the death of our 1957 FA Cup winning captain Johnny Dixon, it would be so apt to win that cup for him this season. We can but dream.
5 Which two Latics players would you welcome in the Villa line up and why?
I'm not the best at this, I always have the hope that the manager is slightly better positioned to judge players but hey, Amr Zaki looks like a very decent striker and we've already taken Heskey so I might leave it at that, don't want to be greedy now!
6 Last season we did you at Villa Park, yes I remember it well, what do you think the score will be this time round?
Nah, you must have been dreaming, never happened, been wiped from my memory! I think we'll win, at the moment we are on a roll, 11 undefeated to be exact. Obviously all good things come to an end but if we truly do want the top four, we can't allow it to end just yet! I'll be happy with a 10-0 but would settle for 1-0. Hopefully Heskey will be on top form, I'm sure if he does score he'll be respectful to Wigan in not celebrating though.
Oh and Mr Worbo, may happy returns (and I do mean many... 50 to be exact) for Monday. I'll be catching you up later in the month, albeit 10 years younger! :o) I think you have a great community building on Vital Wigan and I salute you sir!
