Villa Vs Latics Half-Time Report

Villa Vs Latics Half-Time Report

A half of missed chances for both teams

Both Villa and Wigan have had golden goal scoring chances saved brilliantly by there respective goal keepers Friedel and Kirkland

Heskey for Villa has been a constant threat in the box which isn't a surprise against his old club however he was struggling to get off the park after the halftime whistle was blown.

Its clear what Villa's tatics are, hold the ball and slow up play, move down the left flank and send the ball into the box. Villa have had 2 chances on goal with both of those saved by Kirkland, 1 a tip over the bar the other a Heskey header right onto Kirkland's chest

Wigan started the game disjointed and it looked to be a long afternoon for the Latics, but this appears to be a common occurance whilst the game is played in a compact style instead of a free flowing style which suits the latics ball play movement accross the park due to the fitness levels the Latics players have especially in the middle of the park with Cattermole and Brown.

It took a while for Wigan to settle and work there way into the game but when they did it involved balls passing along the ground creating our 1st chance of the match. It started on the left flank in Wigans half, Koumas held the ball up and sent it accross the park out to Wigans right which connected to Melchiot again in wigans half, his pass along the ground saw Scharner move over the ball and draw Knight with him and opened the play up for a direct running De Ridder who collected and placed his shot on goal which was saved by a spreading Friedel

The 2nd chance for Wigan came right on halftime thanks to a Brown chip into the box which saw Figgy jump above the pack and connect with a bullett header, again saved brilliantly by Friedel
