Valencia Stays Put - For Now

Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Latics Ecuador international Antonio Valencia turned down a move to Real Madrid on Friday and the much sought after midfield man is determined to help the blues to finish the season on a high.

Bruce was pleased to be able to report that Valencia himself turned down the move, does this mean that the club accepted a bid from the Spanish side? I would have hoped that the Latics would have put a 'not for sale` notice up after already losing key players Emile Heskey and Wilson Palacios.

Bruce spoke to the press following the Latics hard fought draw at Villa Park today, he said:

'Valencia has turned down an offer from Real Madrid'

'It only happened on Friday and it is great news for us

'He is prepared to stay with us until the end of the season at least - which is fantastic.

'We have lost Emile and Wilson, and the last thing you want to do is rebuild a team in January. Keeping hold of Antonio was paramount.'

Former Latics player Wilson Palacios made his Spurs debut in their 3-2 defeat at Bolton today, looks like Harry Redknapp is struggling to buy Premier League safety.

Palacios made a return to the North West today, but it ended in defeat

Palacios by all accounts played his usual all action game and was unlucky to end up on the losing side lets hope this move doesn`t come back to haunt him.

great news for you - it's always nice to see a bit of loyalty in football...
pompeycarpet
It's not loyalty matey! He knows ManU are in for him, he won't even need to move house when he goes there. As if any footballers are loyal these days!
fifthcolumnblue
Fifthcolumn if you were right there he would have left when Man U were in for him last summer. What did he do then? Oh right, he committed to playing here for another year - which, as we just found out, he upheld. So yeah I would call that loyalty.

You guys must hold on to Valencia. He is class and for reasons inexplicable he is playing for you. City are looking to pay £20Million plus for players nowhere near as good. Get the claws in and hold on
