Reserves Get a Tonking


Wigan Athletic reserves got a bit of a tonking tonight at St. James` Park as Newcastle United reserves ran out 5-0 winners in the reserve league fixture.

Keith Bertschin took a young Latics side up the A1 and they came unstuck as a Newcastle side showed a lot more class and finishing with goals from striker Xisco who got a brace, LuaLua, Cacapa and Nile Ranger got one each for the home side.

NEWCASTLE UNITED:

Forster; Tavernier, Edgar, Cacapa, Lough (Ferguson, 37); Doninger (Ranger, 81), Smith, Danquah (Godsmark, 71), Donaldson; LuaLua, Xisco.

Subs not used: Johnson, Taylor.

WIGAN ATHLETIC:

Williams; Buxton, Field, Pearson, Mustoe; Mahon (McManam, 66), Routledge (Breeze, 75), Holt, Kupisz (Redmond, 56); Cywka, Hampson.
