Kingson Happy At The Latics

Wigan Athletic 3rd choice goalkeeper Richard Kingson starred for Ghana in the midweek international against Egypt with a very good display that earned his side a 2-2 draw in the friendly against the African champions.

Amr Zaki was in the Egypt side that faced Ghana in Cairo and Kingson said he was happy to keep his Latics team-mate of the scorers sheet as he tries to cement his place in the Ghanaian national side for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, Kingson told reporters:

'It was good to play against Zaki this week, it's fun when you face someone from your own club in an international match.

'It makes you a little bit more determined to do well, and I'm sure we'll have a chat about the game when we're back at Wigan.

'I've got my sights playing on the World Cup next year, and in our qualifying group we have Benin, Sudan and Mali.

'The winner of the group goes to South Africa, I really hope it will be us.

'I played in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Ghana got to the second round before getting knocked out by Brazil.

'But we beat the Czech Republic and the United States in the group stages, it was a very good experience.'

The likeable goalkeeper says that he is really enjoying his time at the Latics and that the squad is not only talented but also fun to work with and banter is very much a part of the daily life at the club, he continued:

I'm happy here even though I'm still waiting for my big chance.

'To be training with such a good squad of players is great. This is a happy club, with all the players getting on well together.

'We share jokes off the pitch, but work very hard on the training ground to make sure we do well in matches.

'Being a goalkeeper is difficult because obviously only one of you can play. It's not like other positions.

'There's strong competition here, with three goalkeepers, and I'll have to work so that if my chance comes I can take it.'

Its good to have someone as experienced as Kingson as our 3rd choice and good luck to the lad on his World Cup quest
