Europe Would be Good For The Latics

Wigan Athletic in Europe, we can dream, well the majority of visitors to the Vital Wigan site reckon that qualifying for the Uefa Europa Cup would be good for the Latics

We ran a poll to judge if the majority of supporters wanted European qualification following reports that there are those among the hierarchy of the club that feel a European adventure would be a disaster

The pessimists point to the fate of Blackburn and Bolton as clubs that have suffered as a consequence of European qualification, personally I don`t see what the problem is, they are both well established Premier League clubs and both have shown ambition by qualifying, that is something that I hope the Latics can show between now and the end of the season, ambition.

For the record the result of the poll:

Would Europe be good or bad for the Latics?

Good, put the club on the map - 81%

Bad, we're not ready yet - 19%

The new poll is available on the right side of this page and the burning question is who should lead the Latics line?

We need to have ambition or whats the point

It was great for us - we now have fond memories we can look back on and enjoy, and say we outplayed AC milan for 85 minutes. BUT - we were lucky. we got to play one of the best teams in europe, and then got out early - and even then, it had a massive effect on our league form, which suffered a massive confidence shock, which has basicly stuck us from fighting with villa for the "best of the rest" (or better) to fighting off relegation (that, and Real Madird and Intermilan decided our midfield was actually VERY good, and diara and muntari have promptly walked strait into there first teams...). Away games against Wolfsburg and Braga (and to a lesser extent gumires) completly destroyed our confidence - playing against tough oponants, in an unfamiliar country, against fans who think it's normal to throw flares onto the pitch, [but before anyone says they are more "enthusiastic", they don't turn up in that great nimbers, and certainly don't have any decent songs/chants].

It was fantastic for pompey to play in europe (a dream to play AC Milan), and I certainly would want to relive some of the memories again. However, the effect it has had on our league form has been massive. maybe once is enough... for now. good luck getting there though (unless we overtake you...) much MUCH MUCH rather you than man city or spurs.

Cheers for the kind words pompeycarpet, at least your board should ambition last season, just hope ours does
