'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ben Watson Confident of Making Impact at Latics

Wigan Athletic new boy Ben Watson is relishing the challenge of establishing himself in the Latics midfield and he says that he has settled well into the squad.

Watson was signed from Crystal Palace for £2 million in January even though he had agreed terms with Saturdays opponents Middlesbrough, Steve Bruce nipped in just in time to snap the likeable Londoner up and bring him to the North West

Watson says he has a belief in his ability and to have joined a team doing so well is very exciting, he told reporters:

'To have joined a team going so well and playing for a manager of Steve Bruce's calibre is really exciting'

'I've settled well into the squad and need to concentrate on earning a starting place and then keeping it.

'That's going to be tough because the competition is so strong.

'But I'm a confident person and you have to believe in your ability to do well.'

Watson left Crystal Palace being there from the age of ten and although grateful of the opportunity that the South London club provided he said it was time to move on, Watson continued:

'Every player wants to play at the highest possible level it was time for a change after being at Palace since I was 10. I will never forget what they did for me, but you have to do what's best for your career and I think I served Palace well in my time there.'

Nice one Ben
