Boro Afraid of the Cattermole Effect?

Wigan Athletic midfield ace Lee Cattermole returns to his former club on Saturday as the Latics make the trip up the North East to Middlesbrough and the Boro management are looking forward to seeing Catts once more.

Boro first team coach Colin Cooper has spoken about Cattermoles return and he says that he will be welcomed back with open arms but obviously that warm welcome will be strictly off the pitch with no doubt a feisty one on it.

Cattermole was very popular with the Boro fans and Cooper appreciates the reasons why but says that they couldn`t guarantee him regular first team football, that`s something that I cant understand seeing how Steve Bruce as built his midfield around the 20 year old

Cooper told reporters:

'Lee Cattermole is one of those players that Boro fans take to their heart.

'Obviously they appreciate flair players here, but they also like to see local boys who wear their hearts on their sleeve.

'Cattermole is one of those players. Last summer he was offered the opportunity to play regular football at Wigan and that was something we couldn't guarantee him here.

'Steve Bruce has played him virtually every week and that's pleasing for him. We'll welcome him back with open arms but we'll also be working hard to try to ensure that he goes back to Wigan without anything to show from the game.

'It's a home game, we've been playing well over the last few games, and we want to try to take full advantage.'

Boro`s loss is certainly our gain, I rate Cattermole so highly that I believe he will go on to play for England and he`ll be part of the squad should they qualify for the World Cup finals in South Africa, so thanks Boro you let us have a gem there.

Player of the season so far for me

Bruce has called him our best player this year as well... does make you wonder why he couldn't get a regular place in the Boro side.

am sure southgate doesnt feel well about the decision he took to let him go...he's an extraodrinary fighter..brilliant tackler..

hiya lads! with regards to cattermole you are right he is a brilliant player and is going to develop in to an all time lactic and england great, he didnt make it full time in the boro squad because we had a massive amount of centre mids at the time, o'neill, rochembach, cattermole, boateng, arca plus others. and southgate decided to see 3 of them in one go and leave us wide open in the mid, hence why we are left wide open on the break! the lad emphasises the boro spirit of old, he fights, he shows passion and still likes to play as well. and thats what were lacking now
