'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bertschin Cant Believe the Game Was Lost

Wigan Athletic reserve team boss Keith Bertschin says he is dumbfounded at how his side lost a game to Manchester United reserves that they were winning 4-1 with just 30 minutes to go.

Last nights match at Robin Park Arena was a great advertisement for football at this level, it had it all, there were stunning goals, penalties, flowing football and the game swung one way then the other and to top it all both sides were made up mainly of kids.

Keith Bertschin has really turned around the 2nd string at the Latics and this season has seen not only some good results but also some exquisite football but last nights game has just left him baffled, Bertschin said:

'I was so pleased their heads didn't go down after conceding the early goal and they fought back so well to lead 4-1.

"Credit United for not giving up at that stage but the really disappointing aspect is that apart from the second goal, it was all silly errors that led to the United goals, totally basic lapses of concentration. I'm still wondering how we lost that match.'

For the record the Latics side was:

Nicholls, Montrose, Field, Pearson, Edman, Mahon (Redmond 83), Routledge, Watson (Hampson 57), Holt, Kupisz, Cywka

Subs not used: Williams, Buxton, McManaman
