'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wigan V West Ham

Wigan were desperately unlucky to lose 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but the Latics have faced disappointment before and always tried to respond in the most meaningful way. Their opponents at the JJB are West Ham who are in a decent form themselves, eager, like the Latics, to find a way into Europe.

The Latics results of late have been fairly decent, the only blip being their unfortunate spectacle against Chelsea. That aside, they've done well under Bruce and continue to develop, too. Gianfranco Zola has done much the same with West Ham.

Both teams need three points today to try and maintain their bid for European Football and the Latics have not (touch wood) lost at the JJB for a while but with what is at stake, this won't be an easy game for West Ham or Wigan and Wigan have just started to score from open play again and that is a major confidence boost.

West Ham suffered some injuries during the weekend as well so its not known whether or not the players in question will be fit for the vital clash at the JJB. With other teams around West Ham and Wigan picking up valuable points, its up to Wigan to try and increase the pressure on them whilst trying to go for European glory.

WIGAN: PLAYER TO WATCH: HUGO RODALLEGA
=======================================

The lad's got to open his account at some point and tonight might be the night he does just that.

WEST HAM: PLAYER TO WATCH: ROB GREEN
=====================================

One of the best goalkeepers in the league. Latics will need to play to their best to beat Green tonight.

ROB'S PREDICTION
=================

Wigan 1 West Ham 0

I see a repeat of last season's fixture happening again - Latics have confidence and West Ham, despite being on a decent run, won't find Wigan easy pickings whatsoever.

ROB'S FINAL THOUGHTS
=====================

Three points for the Latics will stave off any small doubt of relegation because of last weekend's results and really give the club a chance of European football.

1 - 0 is my prediction too. I was at the Chelsea game and the N'Zogbia was the man of the Match for me. He did not give Chelsea a break, but the defensive format did not allow us to get a 2nd. As if I was looking at left-footed Valencia. Can't wait until he comes to the side, there is no way a team would be able to score or stop us score.

Come on Wigan - a win against the Hammers is vital to keep those European dreams alive. I think you'll win 2 - 0.
