Stuart Attwell to Referee Latics Vs West Ham

Stuart Attwell to Referee Latics Vs West Ham

Wigan Athletic versus West Ham United will be refereed by Stuart Attwell the Premier Leagues youngest ever referee.

At 26 some may think that the Nuneaton official is too young and inexperienced to deal with superstar football players but in December 2008 he was added to the international list of referees, so somebody has faith in him.

Attwell if you recall was at the centre of controversy in September 2008 when he awarded a 'goal` to Reading in their game against Watford at Vicarage Road, the ball was clearly not over the line by a matter of yards.

Attwell was again to suffer controversy when in the East Midlands derby on 2nd November 2008 between Derby County and Nottingham Forrest he disallowed what were proved to be two legitimate goals for Derby County in the final moments of the game.

Days after the match Attwell was called in for a meeting with Referee's Chief Keith Hackett and consequently axed from the following weeks fixture list, lets hope that there is no controversy surrounding his performance in this game.

In a recent interview Attwell said:

'As a referee there are always going to be times when you are presented with challenges. The important thing is how you respond to them and learn from them.

'You have got to come back stronger, better equipped to go out there and perform.

'It has been a case of moving on from the challenges I have faced and getting a good run of form together.'

So far this season Stuart Attwell has refereed 24 games and issued 73 yellow cards and 6 red crads.
