Latics to Release Four in Cost Cutting Measures

Wigan Athletic are set to release 4 of the 6 first year professionals at the end of the current season with the club claiming they cant afford to offer them contracts.

Steve Bruce has already spoken to the lads concerned and they are all aware that they wont be at the JJB next season with their £350 per week wages proving too much for the Premier League club, the two to be kept on are Joe Holt and Jon Routledge.

Lewis Montrose who is currently on loan at Chesterfield is also set to be released and he will join Craig Mahon, Matty Hampson, Lewis Field and Andrew Pearson in the search for new clubs.

The players released have all been invited to two days of trials along with young lads in the same situation from other Premier League clubs so that potential suitors can have a look at them and hopefully get them fixed up with new clubs in the summer.

In an ironic twist reserve team boss Keith Bertschin is livid due to the fact that a reserve team fixture coincides with the trials and he is demanding that the players play for him instead of sorting out their futures.

Cant believe that they have been told its cost cutting due to the resources available at the club, much better to be told not good enough
