Wigan Athletic have received praise from Arsenal and Russia player Andrey Arshavin after the two sides met at the JJB on Saturday.
The Latics controlled the game from the start up until the hour mark when lone striker Mido had to leave the match early due to concussion and that`s when it all fell apart.
With no striker on the bench Latics strength in depth was cruelly exposed and boss Steve Bruce introduced midfield man Olivier Kapo to play the lone strike role in place of the injured Mido
To say it didn`t work is an understatement, the Latics fell apart as Arsenal got the lions share of possession, Kapo just couldn`t hold the ball up or was getting caught off-side so the ball was constantly given back to the Gunners and with so much possession the game got turned on its head.
A pity Mido got injured, the result could have been so much different and Arsenal`s little Russian play maker Arshavin was certainly impressed with the Latics and especially Mido, he told reporters after the game:
'Mido caused a lot of problems for us.
'They supplied him with long balls and their assault ended with a goal from a corner. It was well deserved.
'We could've been 3-0 down before the break.
'We had some serious problems but after Mido was substituted we levelled the score immediately.
'Wigan did not allow us to play from the start, closing us down on every inch of the pitch, sometimes playing quicker than us. I thought that they were quite strong physically."
