Bruce Goes Back on The 'Quiet Summer`

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce said only last week that he was expecting a quiet summer on the transfer front, he`s now changed his tune saying that a deal has already been done on one player and two more are in the pipeline

Bruce is giving no hints as to who it may be but he is clear in the fact that the club need to bring in new blood, he said:

'It is always nice to get your business done early and we have two or three things bubbling away, although it would be wrong to identify anyone because they are still with their respective clubs'

'We have an agreement in place with a particular club and as soon as the window opens that one will hopefully be tied up.'

The position that needs strengthening is upfront with a distinct lack of goals a major problem, Zaki dried up in October, Mido has managed just two and new guy Hugo Rodallega has still to open his account despite a good run in the side, Bruce continued:

'We are eyeing a few targets and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out where we are looking and where to improve'

'Always at that end of the pitch it is difficult.

'You look at all the Manchester United players, all £30million-worth, and only Cristiano Ronaldo (17) has got more than 15 Premier League goals this year.

'That is how hard the Premier League is. For us to find one who is going to get 12 or 15 goals in the league we have to unearth one.

'We have to keep digging away and hope that we can but, make no mistake, it is very difficult. Even if you have huge finances it is not easy to get one who can do it.'

Bruce is aware that the Latics are, if not a selling club, certainly a stepping club that players will use to move on to a bigger stage and when he does build a good team it will be inevitable that he will have to break it up to allow the players to move on, this is unsettling for the team but at least allows the club to attract a high calibre of young players who will know that if they perform then they will not be held back, Bruce continued:

'In January we had arguably the best Wigan team this club has had but unfortunately I had to break it up'

'I can't sit here and say we will be very settled. We have to try to plan and if one of the big clubs comes along and offers the money like we had for Palacios then Valencia will go, we know that.

'It does become frustrating because you never want to sell but we have to keep trying to progress and find another one.

'Make no mistake, we will be working away in the summer to bring a few in.'

It is good that Bruce is going public, it keeps the fans interested and optimistic, we want a busy summer on the departure, get rid of Kapo, DeRidder,Koumas, Sibs and bring in some quality

Dan's Big Game Report - Blackpool 0 Latics 4

As you read this message in the year 2036, much of Blackpool vs. Wigan '16 has passed into the annals of Latics lore. Scarcely has a single game of kickball received quite as much build-up - from the minute this fixture was announced to the moment match ref Stuart Attwell finally tootled on his tin whistle, talk of Bloomfield Road on 30 April was incessant.

And I expect it's been much the same since, with (admittedly failed) film scripts written and (admittedly shoddy) statues
