'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wigan v Portsmouth

Wigan look to end the season in style and get a result against Portsmouth in a season which has been largely high and low. The Latics had a good run in the first half of the season but player sales and the securing of premier league status meant that the Latics had lost their best assets and also, because safety had been assured, a lot of the players had already packed their bags and gone on holiday, meaning that the season petered out quickly and it also meant the Latics missed out on the Europa League after a disappointing last two months.

However, the Latics fans deserve more than what they've got in the last two months and Steve Bruce wants to give it to the fans so I expect a difficult game for Portsmouth as they come to the JJB. I don't think we will beat Portsmouth but I think we'll get a draw. That'd be a good way to end the season and may make a difference as to where we finish. I'd be ecstatic if we do manage a win, though.

That said, the Latics have a whole host of injury worries and will this be the last time the Latics get to see Antonio Valencia in a blue and white shirt? I hope not. However it looks increasingly likely. If we get 21m for Valencia, that's great business and will allow the Latics to rebuild.

The problem with the transfer window is that it doesn't give enough time for the team to get to know each other but in the summer, the team will really get to know each other and understand more about the way the team plays. The summer couldn't have come fast enough for the fans as it has been a bad run the team has been on so a bit of team bonding will be a nice tonic.

I do hope we manage to have a good summer and get in some really good players - Jermaine Pennant would be a fantastic addition to the team and Steven Fletcher looks like he may be a good acquisition. We're being linked with all sorts of good names, though and as each year in the EPL we become more established, it can only serve to attract higher calibre of player to the club.

Let's end this one on a high, have a good summer, do the necessary transfer business and look forward to a 09/10 season in the EPL and hope that we get a sixth season in the Premier League. It'll be disappointing to have little to do on the weekend without football but it'll be back before we know it and at the same time, it'll be good to see all the business and the news that goes on over the Summer and it'll be nice to give the fans and a players a well earned break.

WIGAN: PLAYER TO WATCH: HUGH RODALLEGA
======================================

The boy's beginning to find form and I think he may notch another goal against Portsmouth.

PORTSMOUTH: PLAYER TO WATCH: PETER CROUCH
=========================================

This guy is a threat in the air and will want to notch a goal before the season's out and build on Pompey's recent good run.

ROB'S PREDICTION
================

Wigan 1 Portsmouth 1 - Rodallega and Crouch to score respectively.

ROB'S FINAL THOUGHT
===================

These are the results I expect for the other games on the weekend:

Arsenal V Stoke City: 3-1
Aston Villa V Newcastle: 0-1
Blackburn V West Brom: 2-1
Fulham V Everton: 2-0
Hull City V Man Utd: 1-2
Liverpool V Tottenham: 2-0
Man City V Bolton: 3-0
Sunderland V Chelsea: 0-1
West Ham V Middlesbrough: 1-2

See you all again next season!
