Goodbye Zaki, The Dream Almost Came True

Goodbye Zaki, The Dream Almost Came True

Amr Zaki as played his last game for Wigan Athletic and with the striker back in Egypt it looks like the Latics fans wont get their chance to say goodbye to the player they took to their hearts back last summer.

Zaki was an instant hit and during the pre-season he showed the fans a taste of what was to come by scoring goals at Sheffield Wednesday and Hibs, by the end of October he was the Premier League`s top scorer and looking like a superstar.

Unfortunately he let talk of big money moves to Real Madrid or a host of other top European clubs cloud his performances and he managed just one more goal in the rest of the season and that was a penalty against Bolton in December.

Latics boss Steve Bruce says he has nothing but praise for Zaki`s agent Nader Shawky who Bruce says is a honourable gentleman and has done everything above board, but Bruce says that Zaki has listened to the wrong people and by that he undoubtedly means Mohamed Saied who acts as his spokesperson and advisor.

Bruce says: 'He (Zaki) had big personal problems in his life; you'd have to ask Zaki why he chose to go down the path he did.'

Zaki is due to hold a press conference today and tell the world why he is not going to be a Wigan Athletic player, all I say is keep your dignity Amr and don`t slag off the fans or the club who adored you from day one.

We will always look back on this season and wonder what might have been but that`s is football and that is life, it is just a pity that Zaki wont be at the JJB tomorrow so everyone could say their goodbyes.
