'If It's Football, It's Vital'

5 Million required to secure Bruce' services.

Sunderland have identified Steve Bruce as the man to take their club towards Europe but Wigan will not let him go cheaply.

Sunderland, who are in the midst of a takeover from billionaire Ellis Short, have a Bruce admirer in Niall Quinn.

It is believed however, that no offical approach will be made until the takeover is complete.

Bruce for his part is reported as being disillusioned with having to sell his best players at Wigan, with Valencia and possibly Scharner following Palacios and Heskey out of the door.

The opportunity to have a massive transfer budget and to take a club into Europe should it arise, will undoubtably prove too big a temptation.

For Wigan the alarm bells will be ringing as virtually all the backroom staff followed Bruce to Wigan from Birmingham and would be expected to want to go to Sunderland with him.

With several current players in the midst of contract discussions and at least four players needed to strengthen the squad, following a poor second half of the season, Wigan will need to move quickly to stabilise the club, should Bruce move to Wearside.

Bruce to leave us for a second time? looks like it

I'm not sure he'd go right now, especially not to Sunderland. But if he did, what's the betting that Titus would go with him?

Titus, Scahrenr, Kirky, Catt, Maynor are all good ebnough for him to wan tto take them and DW doesn't stand in players way if they want to move on...at a price

Take Sunderland into Europe now that is funny. Bruce is a small time manager and Sunderland are an even smaller club.

Scharner wants EuroBall more than anything I think. Cattermole probably hates Sunderland. I can see him staying at Wigan and being captain. As for Kirky, Sunderland have the Scottish guy. Bruce would try to revive him. Bramble probably doesn't want to see the north-east anytime soon. Bruce only took 3 players from Birmingham when he came to us. Maybe he'll take Kapo to Sunderland! After the weekend he should leave De Ridder here though.
