Figueroa Very Happy At Seasons Progress

Wigan Athletic and Honduras left back Maynor Figueroa says he has loved every minute of this season and he is proud to have started each and every one of the Latics Premier League games of the 2008/09 season.

The 25 year old has been in sensational form and he made his loan deal a permanent one when he completed a £1.5 million transfer from Honduras Champions Deportivo Olipmia in January a full 12 months from when he first arrived at the JJB

Talking about this season and his 38 league starts Figueroa says:'It makes me very happy'

'We have had a good season, all things considered. It could have been better, and we know we ran out of legs a bit in the last month, but we did very well as a group, especially when you think how many changes there were.'

Looking back on his time so far at the club Figueroa says that he found it hard at first and that the cold was a big shock to him but he was determined to be successful and he didn`t want to let the chance slip away.

The likeable left back made a dream debut for the Latics in the last game of 2007/08 season at the JJB when he marked Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo out of the game, and that was a taste of things to come

He has settled in to the team very well and the Latics fans have really taken to him and Figueroa is proud that he is shinning light for his compatriots back home in Honduras giving them inspiration to succeed, he continued:

'It is really hard when you come in to a new country but the Wigan fans have been great to me.

'It has been my dream to play in England all my life. I knew I had one chance to prove myself at Wigan, and when I came on trial at the club, I knew that if it didn't happen for me here, I would probably be heading home.

'I have travelled to the other side of the world, I had to spend Christmas away from my family in a foreign country, where I didn't know the language, and it was freezing cold!

'But that is the risk you have to take. I'm very proud now to have earned a contract, and it gives people back home so much inspiration that players like me and Wilson Palacios can make it over here.'
