Antonio Valencia Replacement?

Antonio Valencia Replacement?

Valencia is set to leave Wigan this summer, with links to Real Madrid or Manchester United. It is not certain where he will go, all that is certain is that he is going.

Valencia, one of Wigan`s best ever players, will be sorely missed by Latics fans but Valencia will not be sold cheaply, and has been said to be worth as much as £20 million. Whether or not he goes for quite that amount, Steve Bruce`s replacement will have some funds to go looking for a replacement.

A rumour of Jermaine Pennant coming to Wigan as a replacement has been crushed with the departure of Steve Bruce. It seems Bruce wants Pennant to follow him to Sunderland, with Titus Bramble, Lee Cattermole and Paul Scharner also linked.

Another Valencia replacement comes from the Liga BBVA, (Spanish Primera). Eliseu Pereira dos Santos or Eliseu for short, plays for Malaga and has no prior connection with Steve Bruce. He is not likely to go to Sunderland, and is skilful enough to attract attention, but sadly for Wigan he has also attracted the attention of Real Betis and Celtic.

Is it possible that Wigan already have a replacement ready for Antonio Valencia?

Daniel de Ridder did not get many starts last season, but he is a skilful player who can take a free kick. He followed Steve Bruce to Wigan from Birmingham but does not appear likely to move to Sunderland.

He was picked up by Wigan as a free transfer but signed a 3 year deal and Latics are yet to see the best of him. Maybe Valencia`s departure was a good thing for de Ridder, who can now enjoy more game time.

Is it worth Wigan buying Eliseu when de Ridder is already bought? Can Wigan still sign Eliseu, or was it all rubbish transfer rumours fresh from Goal.com?

I would go for Guerron from Getafe. He plays where Valencia plays for us for Ecuador. i.e. Right midfield. He's REALLY REALLY fast. and very tough and I think he would be a good signing for us. I have seem him play a few times for Ecuador and he tore Brazil apart!

But if Valencia goes, do we really need another RM? Thats another thing i was thinking. If catt, bramble, boyce and scharner go, we will need more than a RM

Video Highlights - Wigan Athletic 0 Nottingham Forest 0

The action(?) from yesterday's game at the DW Stadium between Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest which ended goalless:

Report - Latics 0 Forest 0 - What A Shocker

Thirteen games to save our Championship status, first up a home game against Nottingham Forest who are on a shocking run of form, conceded 10 goals in their last three matches, three of their first choice defenders missing through injury, they had lost 11 of their 16 away games this season with a -16 goal difference on the road and sat just six points above us in the table, surely a game that we would set out to win.

Checking the team selection I felt slightly optimistic but slightly conf
