McCarthy to be Martinez First Signing

McCarthy to be Martinez First Signing

New Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is looking to make Hamilton`s 18 year old midfield prospect James McCarthy his first signing as the Latics enter a new era.

McCarthy is already the subject of a £400,000 bid from Celtic but reports are suggesting that Hamilton have turned down the bid and with Celtic searching for a new manager Martinez is expected to step in and bring the hottest young talent in Scotland south to the Latics.

The young Scot, who is an Irish under 21 international, has already made 91 appearances for Hamilton, scoring 11 goals and he was identified by Martinez as a target for his previous club Swansea.

He was recently voted Scotlands young player of the year 2008/09

learn to spell championship before you try arguing bout it and it wasnt so long ago you were with us, yea you,v had success cant fault it but your not a succesful club in the premiership and your no bigger than us realy we,r a self sustained club you have debts, bottom of the average attendance in the premierleague and fighting against relegation most seasons yea you may have success but martinez will get bigger offers and he obviously just wants to keep furthering his career.

james, jackarmy I think people are reacting to the knocking that is being given out by the Swansea fans, we KNOW who we are and there are no pretentions at Wigan, as for the Championship it isnt THAT long ago we were in the bottom tier! Most Wigan fans followed your recent success and it was discussed here on Vital and on other Wigan boards with pride that Roberto was doing such a good job. As for debts and small crowds, firstly we have NO debt, Whelan owns the club and says that he will stand ALL the debt and it is his intentions to be self sufficient. Crowds? Who gives a toss, I go and have been going for a long, long time, thats what matters to me 100 or 100,000 so what, it bothers others but not us.

Brentford v Latics - Big Game Preview

A difficult game for the Latics this afternoon as they travel down to Brentford, the Bees have been scoring for fun so far at this campaign on their home turf, but we need to build upon a good win against Wolves on Tuesday and turn around our away form.

The Latics pulled out of the bottom three courtesy of Will Grigg's late, late winner, Grigg was of course signed for the Latics from Brentford, where some say he wasn't given much of a chance under Mark Warburton, so he will be eager to go
