Valencia Stars in Ecuador Win Against the Argies

Wigan Athletic midfield man Antonio Valencia played a starring role in his country`s 2-0 win against Argentina in the qualifying stages of the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa.

Although Ecuador outplayed their more glamorous opponents they were fortunate to be level at half-time with Manchester United star Carlos Tevez missing a penalty for the Argies.

Second half goals from left-back Walter Ayovi, with a superb strike and Pablo Palacios in the last 20 minutes of the game see Ecuador climb up to fifth in the qualifying table and into a play-off place.

Valencia hit the post in the closing moments with a thunderous drive from outside the box.

Ecuador looked quite good and they have some good midfield men, the right winger looks ok and if Valencia is off he might just be the man to replace him
