Amr Zaki to Wigan Athletic on a permanent deal this summer, crazy, well apparently not.
The Egypt and Zamalek forward is currently in negotiations with Blackburn Rovers about a proposed move to Ewood Park but even though the deal is close to completion Zaki still holds a desire to return to the club that gave him his chance in English football and also the warmth of the Latics fans who made him so welcome when he arrived last August means a lot to the 26 year old striker.
Earlier this year Latics tried to sign Zaki in January when a permanent move was in the offing but the figures that they were quoted put off the Latics board from making the deal possible but with a change of personnel in the Zamalek boardroom following elections earlier this year and it is understood that they would be willing to work with any potential buyers to help Zaki get the move that he wants.
Zaki has told friends that he wants to return to the Latics on a permanent deal and that the JJB is his first choice as he hopes to rekindle his affections with the faithful down at Robin Park and after his blistering start last season he did show that there is a lot to offer from the Lion of Cairo.
With former boss Steve Bruce having left for Sunderland and with the public spat that both Bruce and Zaki had now history the door may just be open wide enough to allow Zaki the return to the club that obviously means a great deal to him.
The questions that need to be answered are is Latics owner Dave Whelan willing to sanction the move and lay out money on the talented but enigmatic striker and would Zaki be welcomed back with open arms by the fans down at the side of the River Douglas?
I for one would love to see Zaki re-sign on a permanent basis, his goal scoring ability is unquestionable as far as I am concerned and listening to what he had to say following the conclusion to his loan deal at the Latics, hopefully he realises the mistakes he made last season and he will ensure these aren`t repeated a second time.
Bring back the Zak
