Captain Titus - From Super Mario to Super Hero

Captain Titus - From Super Mario to Super Hero

Word coming out of the soon to be DW Stadium is that there will be a new club captain at Wigan Athletic to go with the stadium name change and the new manager, the new captain is set to be Titus Bramble.

The first question this asks is what about current club captain Mario Melchiot?

Is Mario set to be demoted or worse still is he about to leave the club, now it is no secret that Super Mario and former boss Steve Bruce did not always see eye to eye and the Holland international was reportedly going to review his situation at the club once last season had ended.

Now with Bruce heading for pastures new at Sunderland it was thought that Melchiot would see out the remainder of his contract and stay for at least one more season, maybe he is but if there is any truth of Bramble becoming captain then it seems a little strange to take the mantle away from the former Chelsea, Birmingham and Ajax man.

Titus though would make an excellent captain, off the field he is a real ambassador for the club, the way he conducts himself is exemplary, he speaks well when taking to the press, he is involved in good causes and gives both his time and money to these and he also is very approachable to the fans.

On the field, although not a shouter, Titus leads by example and he is not afraid to put his body on the line for the cause and he is respected by all at the club, this was shown by him being named not only the fans player of the season but also the players, player of the season, yes Bramble would be an excellent club captain

Captain Titus, sounds like a super hero

Club captain should be a position that carries some ambasadorial role, just like formr captain Matt Jackson, Titus is a gentleman off the field and nothing seems too much trouble, I think he would be an excellent choice
