Johnny Palacios Set For Latics?

Johnny Palacios Set For Latics?

Wigan Athletic could be about to make a move for their FOURTH Honduras international in the space of two years with Deportivo Olimpia right back Johnny Palacios believed to be a target for Latics boss Roberto Martinez.

With Hendry Thomas signing in this week to join compatriot Maynor Figueroa at the DW Stadium it is evident that the link to Honduras is far deeper at the Latics than just previous manager Steve Bruce, now it is emerging that Martinez wants to use the connection to secure the services of Johnny Palacios.

Palacios is a name that excites Wigan fans due to the success of former star Wilson Palacios, who left the club in January to join Spurs for £14 million, Johnny is Wilson`s younger brother and at 22 he is regarded as one of Honduras` hottest properties.

Johnny Palacios starred in the Honduras Olympic side during their qualification for and participation in last years Beijing Olympics and he has since made a successful transition to the full national side in their attempts to qualify for next years World Cup finals in South Africa.

With the Latics having just one right back at the club, Mario Melchiot, who is entering the last year of his contract it would be prudent and make great footballing sense to secure one of World Footballs highly promising players in this position and Roberto Martinez is keen to tie up a deal with what seems like Wigan Athletic sister club, Deportivo Olimpia of Honduras, in bringing a second Palacios and fourth Honduran to the DW Stadium.

I think they are proud that their players are making it on the world stage more than anything. The Honduran NT is made up of a lot of Olimpia players so they still can see them during the internationals. J-Pal is the REAL footballing talent of the family they all say. He plays CB/RB. Would be interesting if we signed him. Don't know if he has enough caps though.

How come in Goal Santiago Munez was able to get to England so easily? I know its a movie but... big clubs never have trouble with foreign players.

everyone here in honduras is very proud of the palacios family, they are all pro footballers and at one point have all represented honduras with the national side. the tragedy of the youngest of the palacios is a DAMN shame, quite sad and we all wished it didnt happen. we wish johny the best, if he does come to wigan he will be a great addition to your team. he's only 22 so he has alot of fuel left in his tank. also , henry thomas will be a great player for your team, he's STRONG, big, and isnt afraid of going for the hard tackles, he's also very technical and is great in the air. wish you all the best this upcoming season!

Thanks for that dennismatamoros, the Honduras flag is in the stands at everyone of our home games and its as though there is a part of your country in Wigan now following Palacios, Figueroa and now Thomas joining the club, it would be lovely to keep the tradition going with Johnny Palacios
