Latics Show Interest in Scotland

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is looking to bring Jason Scotland to the DW Stadium to team up with him once again according to the Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins.

It is no secret that the Latics are desperately searching for a striker to team up with Hugo Rodallega for the new season and though he is untried in the Premier League and at 30 most would consider on the old side for such a move it appears that Martinez is fixing to give Scotland his chance of the big time.

Swansea chairman Jenkins told reporters:'We have had firm interest from Wigan'

'But as yet, nobody has met our valuation for Jason Scotland or any other one of our players.

'I have had numerous conversations with a variety of clubs about a variety of things. That is the case all day, every day.

'I have not had any written offers since Burnley came in originally for Jason, but I think you could say Wigan are looking to make one.'

Now whatever that valuation is, if the deal does go ahead, surely it has to be linked to appearances and goals, taking a punt is one thing throwing money away something totally different.

The Swansea City squad have embarked on a training camp in Portugal, Jason Scotland and other want away Swansea player Ferrie Bodde haven`t made the trip and stayed behind. Jenkins insists that there is nothing in this and that both are injured, Jenkins explains:'Jason is injured, he is a Swansea City player and if he was fit he would be in Portugal.

'He has a groin problem and it's a complete coincidence that he is not on the trip.

'Exactly the same is true of Ferrie Bodde.

'If he was fit he would be with the rest of the squad.'
