Wigan Athletic have once again rebuffed an offer from Sunderland for Latics midfield general Lee Cattermole following Steve Bruce`s opening gambit.
The first offer is being reported as a laughable £4 million with the latest offer received yesterday, a derisory £5 million for one of the hottest young prospects in English football.
Cattermole arrived at the Latics just last summer for £3.5 million and he came with a reputation of being a hothead and at times a liability, maybe that was more down to his age than anything else, during the past season Cattermole`s development has been sensational.
He has managed to keep his midfield aggression but in a much more controlled fashion and his playing ability has shown through with him getting a regular run in the team, this in turn reflected in him having a fantastic Under 21 European Championships where he was clearly Englands best performer through out the tournament.
It could be that Steve Bruce is trying to unsettle Cattermole at the Latics for surely £4 and £5 million are laughable offers for a player that is such a prospect, still only 21 years old and destined to become an England regular.
With both Spurs and Liverpool showing serious interest Sunderland is the last place that Catt`s will be thinking of and if he is as mature off the field has he seems he will stay put at the DW stadium, enjoy regular first team football and see if he cant force his way into Fabio Capello`s reckoning ahead of next summer`s World Cup final`s![]()
