Sunderland Can Forget Cattermole

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has told Sunderland to forget any hopes of signing the most promising 21 year old in England and don`t make any more bids because Lee Cattermole is going nowhere.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Whelan reiterated his original stance on Cattermole, he said he told Latics General Manager John Benson that the England Under 21 international was going nowhere and he stands by that still. Whelan said: 'Sunderland are wasting their time - and I've told them that'

'I said, 'Don't even bother bidding for him again'. Lee will be at Wigan this season.

'When I heard about the first bid from Sunderland, I said straight away to John Benson, 'He isn't going anywhere. He's staying here'.

'And Roberto agrees with me, so that's it. Finished.'

Fans will be worried thought that this speculation could unsettle the sides linchpin but Whelan eased any worries by telling supporters that Cattermole is happy enough to stay at the DW stadium, he concluded: 'Lee wants to stay. He's happy here, he knows he's making progress here, and he wants to play under Roberto. It's out of the way as far as he's concerned.'
