One of Roberto Martinez` first jobs has Wigan Athletic manager was to find a replacement for Antonio Valencia who left for Manchester United just as the new gaffer was arriving at the Latics.
There has been lots of press speculation to whom Martinez may be bringing in, Albert Crusat of Almeria, Mark Gonzalez the ex-Liverpool player currently at Spanish club Real Betis even ex-manager Steve Bruces former target Jermaine Pennant was mentioned, but it appears that the answer to this particular puzzle may already lie within the club.
Record signing Charles N`Zogbia joined the Latics in January as a left sided attacking midfield player; he played there for Newcastle United his previous club, as well as left back, and he starred on the left of the Latics midfield during the second half of last season, scoring a sensational solo goal at Sunderland, but during the current pre-season little Charlie has featured heavily on the right side of the midfield.
Martinez has been extremely impressed with the little Frenchman and last week at Preston and then Norwich he was superb and scored a cracking goal in each of the games.
Speaking about Zog playing wide right Martinez say`s that he is adding another string to his bow and learning the new position will make him a more valuable team member, Martinez said: 'Charles looks dangerous every time he gets the ball at the moment'
'There are a couple of positions he knows inside out, but this position is a little different for him.
'But you can see he is quickly mastering it. Charles can play in numerous positions to suit the needs of the team and the game.
'He has had a very good pre-season, and he is going to get sharper and even stronger.
'That is important - to have as many dimensions as you can possibly have in your play.
'And he and the rest of the players have been working very hard to set their own standards.'![]()
