Wigan Athletic supporter Shaun Farrell, better known on Vital Latics as fazman gives us his thoughts on the coming season now that summer is drawing to a close, over to you fazman:
So here it comes upon us again, the time of year were when you get an invite to something the first thing you do is check what game clashes instead of thanking them, the time of year when the air changes from the smoke of burning charcoal to the fog of anticipation of the forthcoming fixtures. When the talk in the pubs changes from Holidays, Birds and Booze to one thing and of course when the holiday squirts is replaced by the relegation runs.
Yes its here, 3 months have elapsed and the footy season is upon us again.
If none of that means anything to you then your either on the wrong website (and if so welcome anyway), or you`re a fan of the egg shaped ball and your close season is in the winter. For the rest of us its finally here. No more being dragged around the shops, no looking at clothes (unless of course it`s the new kit), and no more being asked what does this look like on! (the answer is "wow you look fantastic" not the "same as it did in the shop" as I have learnt over many years and black eyes). That`s if you`ve got a partner of course. If not I am sure you could change it to painting the shed or looking after the grandkids or for the youngsters……..oh I don`t know I`m not young anymore and it makes me jealous.
Well now its due to begin, (hallelujahs), its time to asses our Hopes, Fears etc and try to put these into words.
So here it goes:
I`m hoping for new Premier League Champions Wigan Athletic, however realistically I`d be happy with two good cup runs and somewhere between 8th and 13th. Add to this the keeping of our star players like Catts, Brambleinho, Figgy and Rodders whilst losing some deadwood would leave me thinking we`ve had a good season.
Well for a start relegation and generally struggling. Add to this I cant help but fear playing football with the big boys we all remember trying this at school and it doesn`t end nicely. I`m also fearing us selling to stay profitable or worse than that us slipping deep into debt and administration.
My other fear like all other Latics fans is that irrational fear that always hangs over us Latics fans, the demise of Mr Whelan and where that leaves us.
Well in my eyes it should be Cattermole a player who I honestly believe this time next year we will be speaking about being the star player for England in the World Cup and possibly a World Cup winner.
However with the chance he may not be here I`m going to say Hugo Rodallega. This is a player who seems to have all the attributes needed in a striker minus the confidence.
That began to show through at the end of last year and I think if it continues he`ll be the one we are selling next year ala Valencia.
Now the important bit:
Premier League: 11th
Carling Cup: Semi-Final
FA Cup: 6th Round
Player of the Year: Hendry Thomas or Hugo Rodallega.
Flop of the year: Jordi Gomez
Convict of the Year: Marlon King. (Also in the running for Big Bubbas new Boyfriend.)
Well there we go a bit long and I thank you for reading it but lets remember whether rain or shine Wigan Athletic…..Altogether now………You are my Sunshine.
Thanks very much for this fazman, Gomez flop of the season...I hope not but I agree that Thomas could end up player of the season.
If you fancy giving us your take on the up coming season then pop the article in an email and send it to us here Vital Latics email
