Wigan Athletic - Catts Gone!

Wigan Athletic - Catts Gone!

It appears that Wigan Athletic midfield man Lee Cattermole has signed for Premier League rivals Sunderland for an initial fee of £8 million that will rise to £10 million with add-ons.

Subject to a satisfactory medical which the youngster is having, Cattermole will be a Sunderland player before the end of today.

The relentless media spouting by former Latics boss Steve Bruce looks to have paid off by unsettling the player and bullying Latics into the sale, just a pity Liverpool didn`t gazzump the Wearsiders because surely Cattermole is making a huge mistake going back to the North East and with his previous troubles outside of football to step back into that environment is asking for trouble, literally.

He`s been a good 'un, no doubt, but he isnt bigger than the club and with Thomas and hopefully Diame to play in the Cattermole role it`s carry on as normal for Roberto`s Latics revolution.

Just a plea to Dave Whelan, can we please use some of the cash to buy a striker, we appear a little short in that department.

stupid bruce he has taking are best player and now hardly any players from the start of the 08/09 season are still at wigan i don't really know any of the players anymore
12/08/2009 16:29:00
Money talks, leaves us short of experience in midfield coupled with the new formation and lack of strikers should be an interesting start to the season. I await Roberto's "Catt isn't going anywhere" response with interest
12/08/2009 16:37:00
huge mistake. cat will be a worse player for this, doubt he'll have an england shout at all now playing for a team like dunderland. cant imagine he will be verey popular with his boy hood team boro's fans either. shame

Bad move for Cattermole, good business for us. I think this will stunt his growth as a complete player. At Sunderland he will be a ballwinner, not much more. The new style asks a lot of each player. They have to take more personal responsibility for the team and be creative and destructive and I wonder if he doesn't want to make take on the challenge? Oh well, I think Cho, Thomas, Diame, Watson are more than capable of filling in for him.

Im quite angry now. We are selling us down the league!!!!

so it starts with roy carrol...then ellington, roberts, baines, heskey, palacios, valencia and now cattermole! we have now lost our title as quickest progressive club in europe, so much for europe. the top players that have played here have always wanted to go onto better things, dizzier heights or bigger challenges. that's ok but it would be better to have kept them so that the team becomes that better club, by doing that, the players won't feel like they have to move on, they'll feel like they've reached that higher level. however, Mr. Whelan is motivated by the 'quick buck' once again and sells on sight. let me just quote something from the 'miser' himself, "we certainly won't be selling the lad for any less than 12m, and certainly not to sunderland" ...well if we've got a chairman that can lie through his teeth like that...WE'VE GOT NO CHANCE! i'm sorry but i lost respect for Mr. Whelan a long time ago...i don't think his mind is on his WAFC account, more like his HSBC account
