Hendry Thomas Set To Be The Fans Favourite

Wigan Athletic fans were asked in the latest poll on Vital Latics who out of the new signings will become the 'fans favourite` and you have voted for Hendry Thomas.

The Honduras international has been a long time coming to Wigan, a year to be exact and it appears that the wait has whetted the fans appetite for the tough tackling no nonsense midfield enforcer.

Thomas himself is delighted to finally be lining up for the Latics in the Premier League and on his signing at the DW he said: "Finally my dream has been realised and the hard work from the past year has paid off, I am a Wigan Athletic player"

It was a close run thing though in the poll and Thomas with 36% of the votes just piped Jordi Gomez (35%) in to second place.

Gomez comes with a good reputation having spent last season on loan in the Championship with Swansea City scoring 15 goals from midfield and receiving rave reviews from pundits, fans and fellow professionals, indeed the former Espanyol player was named in the 'Championship Team of the Year` a players player award so to speak.

Big things are expected and needed from both players and they will also be required to settle in to the team quickly if these expectations are to be met.

The new poll which is available on the bottom right of this page is asking who will win the opening game of the season tomorrow between the Latics and Aston Villa, personally I think we will get a draw and buck the trend of opening day defeats.
