Player Ratings - Villa Vs Latics

Aston Villa 0-2 Wigan Athletic

By Fazman

Fazman travelled to Villa Park yesterday, took a his place in the posh seats (corporate) and had a perfect view of the Latics players performance, here is the frank analysis of the guys on the pitch:

Chris Kirkland: 6

Believe it or not he didn`t look that comfortable even though he kept a clean sheet.

Maynor Figueroa: 7

Great and did well just wish he could of attacked more.

Mario Melchiot: 8

Outstanding both defensively and offensively.

Titus Bramble: 9

Great positioning all day and covered a few times for Paul Pele Scharner.

Paul Scharner: 8

Did well and didn`t lose his head but Bramble had to help him a couple of times. I can see him starting every game and being our Rio Ferdinand playing the ball out of defensive.

Hendry Thomas: 9

What a player. No wonder we let Cattermole go. He would have got a 10 but he seemed to hurt himself and disappear later on.

Michael Brown: Man of the match 10!

I will go as far as to say its because of him we won. The way he niggled with the villa players took them out of their stride and his ball playing was fantastic.

Jason Koumas: 9

Again looks a different player and played with a smile.

Jordi Gomez: 7

Gave the ball away too much for me but still played well.

Charles N`Zogbia: 10

A star man we didn`t look as threatening without him and the speed on him is ridiculous.

Hugo Rodallega: 10

He will score 10-15 goals! He`s stronger than last season faster and more confident.

The subs:

Scott Sinclair: 8

Cho and Scotland not long enough but Scotland seemed to sit too deep!

Overall great performance!

I think that the defence and Heskey had some issues from Wigan that needed sorting and at one point I thought he was going to go off crying.

Nice one Latics. Lots of people have already written you off as strugglers this season, but assuming you keep your best players fit, I think you'll give better teams than Villa a bit of a shock this season. Martinez looks a good coach, good luck to both him and the team. (Except against City of course!)

Wigan 1-2 Bradford Match Report

Latics dropped to a deserved 1-2 defeat at the hands of Bradford, our first loss at home in the league since March. It was an off-day, defence looked shaky from the off and once Nick Powell went off injured, we never really threatened to score. We are back at the DW on Tuesday against Doncaster Rovers, an opportunity to get back on track.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side from our last league game, with Michael Jacobs returning to the starting line-up.
