It is being reported that Wigan Athletic midfield player Ben Watson has been told by Latics boss Roberto Martinez that he can leave the club because he doesn`t feature in the managers plans.
Watson was signed by previous manager Steve Bruce in January from Crystal Palace for £2.5 million and in 10 appearances for the Latics at the back end of last season the former England under 21 international scored two goals the opening goal at Sunderland in the 2-1 win and the only goal of the 1-0 home victory the following week against Hull City.
It is believed that Ipswich Town have offered £1.5 million and Cardiff City want Watson on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal at the end of that period, the player though is reluctant to leave the Premier League and wants a move to a top flight club.
Personally I believe that Watson could have a job to do at the Latics, albeit as a squad member, but he did show enough quality in the 10 games he played last season to suggest he is capable of football at the top level.![]()
